Building the Future of Professional Sumo

For decades, Stuart Snyder has helped create unforgettable experiences in live entertainment, sports, hospitality, and film/television. Next up: building the first professional sumo touring league outside of Japan.

WHY SUMO?

You Have to Be
There to Feel It

Stu first experienced sumo many years ago… Not online. Not on TV. But live in Japan.

Immediately, he was captivated by the raw energy of the crowd, the real-time reactions, and the craft of each match. This was a sport built on centuries of honor, discipline, respect, and extraordinary technique.

Stu thought he knew what to expect going into the event. But feeling the arena erupt in real time? He was instantly hooked.

However, he wouldn’t be re-introduced to sumo until a couple of years ago. This time, Stu was available from other commitments and had the vision that sumo could be a successful professional league outside of Japan.

THAT’S WHEN IT HIT STU:

Sumo is a Sport Everyone Recognizes,
But Few Have Experienced

After experiencing sumo years ago and then again recently, Stu wondered: What if everyone could feel what he did—the thrill of being there in person, soaking in the electricity of the crowd, and leaving saying, “What an incredible live event. These athletes are amazing. More people need to experience this!”

While millions of people recognize sumo, very few have experienced it live.

Stu couldn’t stop asking himself
one question…

Why isn’t there a professional league bringing
this incredible sport to new audiences across North America?

THE VISION

The Path to the Sumo
Championship League

Stu’s visit to Japan was just the beginning. After being reintroduced to sumo recently, he committed to better understanding the tradition-steeped sport by attending amateur and professional exhibition matches.

The more he immersed himself in sumo, the more he saw the opportunity: to create a professional live league experience that people would deeply feel, remember, and talk about.

WHY STU?

Experience That Checks Every Box

Building a professional sports league on a global scale requires more than loving a sport. It requires understanding:

  • Live
    entertainment
  • Branding
  • Audience
    engagement
  • Operations
  • Television
  • Business
    strategy
  • Production
  • And so much
    more

Throughout his career, Stu’s been there and checked all the boxes. He ran Cartoon Network/Adult Swim, led WWE, Disney on Ice, and Ringling Bros., plus grew several companies, including one of Maine’s most beloved and iconic restaurants.

Whether it’s television, live entertainment, hospitality, or now professional sumo, Stu has spent his career doing one thing exceptionally well:

Creating and promoting experiences people remember long after
they leave.

Building in Real Time

From the Ground Up

Let’s be clear… Stu isn’t stepping into an already-established brand. He and his team are building the Sumo Championship League from the ground up.

As Co-Founder & Chairman/CEO, he’s currently focused on:

Building the
athlete roster

Shaping the
live experience

Creating
the brand

Securing
venues

Partnering
with media

Growing
the league

And the list goes on.

(After all, creating a new, live sports experience isn’t something
you can start on Monday and finish on Friday.)

Lessons from the Journey

Sharing the Work Behind the Vision

Stu isn’t just a CEO. He’s also a founder, mentor, and speaker. And he wants to pay his industry knowledge forward.

As the Sumo Championship League takes shape, Stu is excited to share:

  • How he makes key decisions
  • Challenges that are keeping
    him up at night
  • Lessons he’s learning along
    the way
  • Business advice on building
    from zero

Follow Stu’s journey as the league comes to life, or invite him to share the lessons, challenges, and behind-the-scenes decisions with your audience.

Success is the
only option.

Stu Snyder, on building a Sumo Championship League that will captivate audiences of all ages.

Hands Down

The Best Way to Experience Sumo is to Be There In Person

There’s nothing like being in the room, experiencing the sights, sounds, and strategy unfolding before you.

And that’s why the Sumo Championship League was born. To bring one of the world’s oldest traditions—with a modern professional league structure—to the masses.
